May 29, 2013 - Thurston County Sheriff, John Snaza, was on hand at Wednesday's meeting to speak to the club when President Tom Carroll presented the Sheriff with honorary membership to Gateway Rotary.  Snaza was elected to office on January 1, 2011 after 21 years of prior service to the County.  During his tenure in the department, Snaza has performed many different roles including being assigned to the Air Operations Unit and Marine Services Unit, narcotics investigations, gang activity investigation and Commander of the multi-agency Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.  Sheriff Snaza joins Undersheriff Tim Braniff at Gateway.

Sheriff Snaza updated the club on the progress of his administration, the current successes and challenges, and the future goals of the department.  The presentation was informative and at times entertaining, especially when talking about speeding tickets on County roads while looking directly at President Tom.  Calls to President Tom for further details have not been returned.

One final note, to add to his many other accomplishments and awards, Sheriff Snaza won the Longest Drive trophy at the 2nd Annual Gateway Golf Tournament, held May 17.

Welcome to Gateway Rotary, Thurston County Sheriff John Snaza!
