Club President Jeff Ott presents District 5020 Governor Tom Carroll with a book to sign for Pleasant Glade Elementary
Every week is new and interesting at Gateway Rotary, and this week’s meeting was no exception. We were treated to hearing our past-president-turned-District-Governor Tom Carroll share what he’s been doing since assuming his new role.
Highlights of his talk included:
  • presenting a themed banner to our Club
  • announcing the appointment of Jonathan Sprouffske as his Chief-Of-Staff
  • the overall strategic goals of Rotary Club International
    • building and sustaining clubs
    • serving communities globally
    • upholding Rotary Club International’s public image
  • the 2018 District Conference will be held in Tacoma – he’s already obtained a great lineup of speakers
  • announced the District Challenge: each club donate 2 books per Rotarian to give to a local reading foundation by the end of April
Rotary International recently embarked on Making A Difference Campaign, hiring a marketing firm to survey nonprofit organizations globally. Some of the findings about Rotarians were:
  • the clubs are comprised of many different professions in the community
  • members gain leadership skills and learn to plan well when attending conferences
  • members are passionate and have perseverance
  • are made up of 45,000 clubs globally that pull together their resources to help those in need and perform global community service
We were reminded of the most important value of Rotarians: friendships strengthens service. As Rotarians we change people and communities, one at a time.
