Karen was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, attended Henry J. Kaiser High School (go Cougs), South Puget Sound Community College and got my undergraduate degree at Washington State University’s Distance Degree program while raising 4 kids. She’s a marketing, sales and community outreach professional. A community-minded person, her involvement is primarily focused on Dry Tikes & Wet Wipes, where I serve as the Board Chair, and Homeless Backpacks, where I fill in the gap. She also has donated over 15 Hawaiian Dinners as auction items to several other nonprofit organizations, bringing in over $5,000 to local area charities.
Her family consists of husband, Bill of 34 years, and four adult kids who teach, coach organizations on Diversity & Inclusion, Project Management software solutions contractors for the State and sales solutions for Xfinity. She also has 2 adorable granddaughters who light up her world.
People may not know this about her, but I used to pass out timeshare fliers to tourists when I was 15. She has not yet gone on her dream vacation but, when she does, it will be around the Pacific Rim to Hong Kong or Beijing, Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti OR a European food and wine tour of Spain, France, Greece and Italy.
Her favorite side dish is noodles of all kinds from almost every nation and her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it involves combining her family with two other families they’ve known and moved to the Pacific Northwest with from Hawaii. When she’s not working, you're likely to find her hanging out with her 6-year-old granddaughter, visiting her 2 ½ year old granddaughter, or in Honolulu taking care of my 94-year-old mother.
She joined Gateway Rotary Club because Doug Mah invited her, she used to be a member of SPSCC’s Rotaract Club, she was looking to get involved in the community in a meaningful way and wanted to be around a diverse group of professionals who felt the same way. As a member of Gateway Rotary Club, she hopes to help raise awareness of the amazing charitable organizations we support, serve with my amazing Rotarians and give back to the community.
