This week’s Gateway Rotary member, Mike Leonard, is celebrating his 15th year with Rotary Club International and his second year as a Gateway Rotarian. Born in New York, he and his four siblings his family migrated west, stopping in Wyoming long enough to have a horse named Dusty. His family includes his wife of 35 years, Kathy, their two amazing children, Shea and Garrett, and their third baby (black lab) in their family, Olive.
He is, like all of our fellow Gateway Rotarians are, full of interesting gifts, talents and interests, including officiating over eight weddings, is a Pearl Jam fan, a golfer who’s passion enabled him to meet Jack Nicklaus and has completed four of the Seattle-to-Portland events. He’s also an advocate for student success and has been a reading buddy for five years. In fact, his second grade reading buddy has improved her reading level from a first grade level to a fourth grade level in a year.
His career spans thirty years in the newspaper business, to his current role as Development Director with United Way for the past five years. He hopes to get a team from Gateway Rotary to participate in the United Way Day of Caring. It’s great to have so many caring members of the community like Mike Leonard in our Club.
